Oral Blog Entry-A Diploma Lecture of Week 6 Unions in New Zealand

We had a lecture in week six, it was about 'Unions in New Zealand'. Sarah Hardman was the lecturer. She is the ASTE( Association of Staff in Tertiary Education) chairperson. Sarah said that union is workers organised into a voluptuary association, or union to further their mutual interests with respect to wages, hours, working conditions and other mothers of interests to the workers. Unions have negotiated with employers about pay rates, work hours and working conditions. The union's members can vote their leaders who can fight for worker's fair pay, sick pay and safety at workplace with the employers. There are 2,000,000 workers, but only 330,000New Zealand people join unions. As an employee, union is very important for us.

Oral Blog Portfolio Post Entry Seven

We had a Diploma lecture about ' New Zealand Police' this week. A police, Rohan Stace, who is the lecturer.

We have been told how communicate with the police, complain against the police and role of the police in New Zealand. If you were in emergency situation you can dial 111 ask for the police help. Even it was not emergency such as someone lost passport or reporting the crime. If people whose English is not good enough want to contact the police, they can use the Language Line.

Police's duty is preventing crime and protecting people' lives.

However, if you were not satisfied for the police service, you can complaint them. You could go to the police station or call PCA( Police Complains Audacity).

Text Blog Entry six- A narrative or recount

This is an article is about the plan of Air Nelson's strike, due to the reason of they have done more work without extra pay. The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU) organiser Strachan Crang said that pay rates had been wear away after the independent, Nelson-based Origin Pacific airline broken down. Air Nelson had taken on a lot of work without extra pay for collapsed Oringin Pacific. Air New Zealand was Air Nelson's parent company, which controlled the wages down. Air Nelson offered a three year deal of first year 3.6 per cent rise which followed by another 3 per cent and in the third year, a final 3.6 per cent rise to the wages. But the union wants 5.8 per cent rise in first year and 4.8 per cent in the second for a two year contract. The incentive of 3 per cent rise to front line staff will take an effect from July 1, which combined with Employment Court’s indication of the ambiguity of their notice, made the EPMU removed the strike notice.

Text Blog Entry 5 My Break

It's very hard to say good or not for my break. I thought it might long story. We had sold our house before Christmas, the settlement date was on 2nd March this year. Moving out from the house, we rented an unit before the settlement date. However, the buyer have not settled yet. We connected with their lawyer and the argent many times, but nothing could help. We were so disillusioned that we canceled the agreement on 5th April. Being almost stressed out, we stayed at home instead of going out.
After two or three days, the thing was changed. The other purchaser bought our house.
