Oral Blog Entry-A Diploma Lecture of Week 6 Unions in New Zealand

We had a lecture in week six, it was about 'Unions in New Zealand'. Sarah Hardman was the lecturer. She is the ASTE( Association of Staff in Tertiary Education) chairperson. Sarah said that union is workers organised into a voluptuary association, or union to further their mutual interests with respect to wages, hours, working conditions and other mothers of interests to the workers. Unions have negotiated with employers about pay rates, work hours and working conditions. The union's members can vote their leaders who can fight for worker's fair pay, sick pay and safety at workplace with the employers. There are 2,000,000 workers, but only 330,000New Zealand people join unions. As an employee, union is very important for us.
